We want to make sure you get the correct medication and that you get it in a timely manner. Please work with us to make this process smooth and efficient.
New Prescriptions:
Patients enjoy our quick and streamline processing of new prescriptions. When you complete the new patient paperwork, you will have an opportunity to list your preferred pharmacies. If you are an existing patient, have us update your preferred pharmacy just tell us the pharmacy you would most likely use if you had to. The information may not be important on the day of your first visit but is important for us to use in the event that you need a prescription at some later date. Most prescriptions are sent directly to the pharmacy from our office at the time of your visit. In many cases the prescription arrives at the pharmacy of your choice before you leave our office. This speeds the processing of the prescription and reduces your wait time at the pharmacy.
If you are given a new written prescriptions, please take it to your local pharmacy or send it to the mail order pharmacy you use. Tell the doctor if you are going to use mail order or a local pharmacy. If you need the medication right away, you may need a small prescription for the local pharmacy while you wait for your mail order. (If you don't know about mail order, ask your insurance company if there is a mail order pharmacy you can use that will enable you to get your medication at less cost than at a local pharmacy.)
If you chose to use a mail order pharmacy, bring the order form to your visit. Do not fax it in. Faxing the prescription creates a significant amount of work for the office staff and physician. The office will not fax or phone in a new prescription to the mail order pharmacy. If you need medication right away, your doctor can write two prescriptions for you - one for the local pharmacy and one for the mail order. Ask the doctor about this when you are in the office so you do not need to call back later for another prescription. If you get one prescription with the intention of using mail order, do not take that one to a local pharmacy and then ask for another one for mail order.
Refills:
Call your pharmacy (local or mail order) even if your bottle says you do not have any refills left. They will contact us for approval. If your medication is antibiotics or for pain, call the office also. You may need to be seen by the doctor. Please allow three (3) days for a refill from a local pharmacy. Allow 2-3 weeks for a refill from a mail order pharmacy. Our physicians do not approve refills at night, on weekends, or on holidays.
Changing Pharmacies:
If you want to change a prescription from a local pharmacy to another local pharmacy, have the new one call the old one for the information.
If you want to change mail order pharmacies, call our office and give us the name, address and fax number of the mail order pharmacy.
